The Mont Vernon Heritage Commission manages all phases of this project — selecting architects, overseeing contractors, directing each stage of work, and raising the funds that make it possible. Grant applications are handled by a town-employed grant manager.
Why This Work is Urgent
The building needs critical improvements to continue to function safely. The crawlspace has deteriorating structural timbers, and the electrical system requires full upgrading. There is no fire suppression, and exit hardware and stairs do not meet modern safety codes. The Historical Society Museum, which served the community for over 20 years, has been forced to close during ongoing work. Addressing these conditions is not optional — it is what Phase 1 and Phase 2 are designed to do.
A Thoughtful, Phased Plan for Restoration
Restoring the Mont Vernon Town Hall is a long-term commitment guided by professional assessments and community input. Rather than attempting all work at once, the project is intentionally planned in three restoration phases, followed by a future renovation phase. This approach allows the Town to address urgent needs first, spread costs over time, leverage grants, and use public and private resources wisely. Each phase builds on the one before it, ensuring the building is protected, safe, accessible, and ready for future use.
