Preserving our historic Town Hall for the next century
For more than 245 years, the Mont Vernon Town Hall has stood at the physical and symbolic center of the community. Originally constructed in 1781 as a meetinghouse, the building predates Mont Vernon’s formal incorporation and reflects a time when civic, cultural, and community life centered around a single shared space.
Over generations, the building adapted to meet the town’s needs. After a fire and relocation in 1837, it was reimagined for combined civic use. In 1897, it formally became the Mont Vernon Town Hall.
It is where town meetings were held, performances and school events took place, and where generations of residents gathered for the civic, cultural, and everyday moments that define community.
Few buildings of this age remain in continuous civic use. Fewer still continue to serve as a living center of public life.
Since 2018, the Mont Vernon Heritage Commission has been raising funds and managing this project. Every dollar donated goes directly to the Heritage Fund, supporting the phased restoration of our historic Town Hall for the community's future.
